US Congressman Harold “Hal” Rogers (KY-05) and Jim Tackett, executive director of Forward in the Fifth, spoke about the importance of local communities working together to advance educational attainment throughout the region at a Forward in the Fifth press conference held April 21 at The Center for Rural Development in Somerset. Tackett announced Clay, Monroe, and Pulaski counties will be working to establish Local Education Affiliate Programs (LEAP), in order to address pressing local education barriers, and to provide a local voice to regional efforts to do so. Each system received 00 from Forward in the Fifth as “seed money” to begin their LEAP program efforts.
